The spiritual of Christians are known through the commitment of a disciple to become similar to his Teacher fully forever (cf. Ro 8:29; Php 3:10, 12). On the pouring out the Holy Spirit in Baptism to inoculate the faithful as a branch to the vine tree, which is Christ (cf. Jn 15:5) and make the faithful become the part of the Mystic Body of Christ (cf. 1 Cor 12:12; Ro 12:5). However, this earlier unity needs a fusion to grow, the fusion that can form the disciple more in accordance with Christ “mind”: “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus” (Php 2:5). In other words, we were called “to wear Jesus Christ” (Ro 13:14; Gal 3:27).
On the spiritual way of Rosary, which is based on the firm contemplation from Christ face – together with Mary – this ideal aim to become similar to Christ is carried through a community, which can be described in the means of friendship. So, we are absolutely enabled to go into Christ life and as if we join and feel His deepest feelings. In the relation to this thing, Beato Bartolo Longo wrote: “Only two best friends, who often meet each other, mostly develop the same habits, so then, by having very closely relation, speak to Jesus and the Blessed Mary, by meditating the mysteries of Rosary and by perceiving the similar things in the Community of the Holiness, we can be, in conformity with our level of humbleness, similar to Them and learn a life which is colored by humbleness, poverty, openness, passion, and perfectness from these holy role –models”.
In the process of becoming similar to Jesus through Rosary, we leave ourselves in a specific way to the guard of the motherhood of the Blessed Virgin. She, who is the Mother of Christ and member of the Church – as a matter of fact, She is the “most superior and special among others”, at the same time becomes the “Mother of Church”. In that way, She continuously born children for the Mystical Body of Her Son. She did it through Herself, by never ending praying for Holy Spirit to pour them out. Mary is the icon/the perfect holy image of Church’s motherhood. Rosary brings us mystically to Mary’s side, as She always care about the growth of Christ as a human in the Nazareth family. That enables Mary to train and form us with the same care, so that Christ can be ‘fully formed’ in ourselves (see Gal 4:19). This role of Mary, which based on Christ’s behavior to radically obey Her, “will not lessen our unique meditation on Christ, but will definitely show us the strength”. This is the principle of ‘luminous’ that is stated by Vatican Council II, which I had strongly witnessed in the life of Pope John Paul II and has been his papal motto: Totus Tuus (Everything is Yours). This motto has been inspired by Saint Louis Marei Grgnion de Montfort, who has explained Mary’s role in our formation process to be similar to Christ through these words :”All our completeness depend on the existence that is adjusted, united and purified for Jesus Christ. Since Mary is the only character that is most similar to Christ among all human, it means that all devotions to Mary, His Holy Mother; and the more one soul being purified to Her, the more it will be purified to Jesus Christ.” There is nothing more in the life of Jesus and Mary, that are united so deeply as in the Rosary. Mary lives only for Christ and for Christ. |
